Keirsey Temperament Sorter II

This test is just plain stupid. It’s totally simplistic. Not everything in life is a dichotomy. Most things aren’t. Here are just a few questions (out of 70) and the answer choices they give.

22. Does interacting with strangers:
      tax your reserves
      energize you
Emeth’s Answer: Depends on the strangers.

31. In hard circumstances, are you sometimes:
      too unsympathetic
      too sympathetic
Emeth’s Answer: What kind of hard circumstances?

33. Is it better to be:
      just
      merciful
Emeth’s Answer: Not better to be either. Must be both.

37. Do you tend to choose:
      rather carefully
      somewhat impulsively
Emeth’s Answer: Depends on what I’m choosing. I can be the most picky person I know for some things. For example, computers, web hosts, schedule books. But when it comes to books, or ice cream, or aromatherapy, I’m impulsive.

40. Children often do not:
      exercise their fantasy enough
      make themselves useful enough
Emeth’s Answer: Why do I have to choose one? I’m with kids every single day. Lacking in imagination and being generally useless are very common characteristics in children.

42. Are you more interested in:
      what is possible
      what is actual
Emeth’s Answer: Both. Or how’s this. I’m interested in what’s actual so I can know what’s possible.

48. With people are you usually more:
      firm than gentle
      gentle than firm
Emeth’s Answer: Depends.

57. If you must disappoint someone are you usually:
      warm and considerate
      frank and straightforward
Emeth’s Answer: I’m warm and straightforward. I’m frank and considerate.

64. Do you find visionaries and theorists:
      somewhat annoying
      rather fascinating
Emeth’s Answer: WHICH VISIONARIES OR THEORISTS??!! Some are fascinating, some are annoying, some are both, some are neither.

Teaching & Education

Changing of the Guard

Well, not exactly. Two teachers quit at one of the places I work at, three new teachers showed up today. This is my seventh month working at the school, I’d just got to know all the teachers pretty well and now it’s all going to be different again. Oh, well. Two of the three are the typical English teacher type. (If you know what I’m talking about, fine. If you don’t, then you’ll have to come here for a year or two or you won’t understand even if I explain.) One of them isn’t. Half American, quarter Eskimo, quarter Japanese. Grad student. Haafu. Omoshirosou. Yappari haafu tte iina. LOL.

I was at the school today from 11 am till 10 pm. I’m completely exhausted. But all the classes went unusually well today, for which I am most grateful. Good night.

Warriors of God : Richard the Lionheart and Saladin in the Third CrusadeHaven’t been writing much these days, I know. That’s because I’ve been sleeping as long as I possibly can. I’m almost over my cold. There’s only good news to tell.

An adult student I had a 2.5-hour discussion with last week has started reading the Bible and will be coming to church next week. Two other students will probably be coming to church the week after. In the last couple weeks, I’ve had a lot of opportunities to have serious discussions and witness to quite a number of students.

Papa gave me a new book he thought I’d like. Warriors of God: Richard the Lionheart and Saladin in the Third Crusade by James Reston, Jr. It’s an interesting little book. Tasso goes on hold yet again. LOL.

Just got paid yesterday!! Actually, this whole week is pay week. Students pay for the next month’s tuition at the end of the previous month.

First Cocktail

Went out for dinner with Ben, Berek, Gen, and Megumi tonight. Had a cocktail at a restaurant for the first time in my life. It was just like fruit juice, just more expensive. What does cocktail mean, anyway? What do cocks and tails have to do with anything? Dictionary.com tells me its origin is unknown.

Crash Chinese Course

Mama’s going to give me a one-month crash Chinese course starting tomorrow. I can understand daily spoken Chinese when I hear it and can speak some, too, but have never studied it properly.

Who’s Beckham?

Richard and Jonathan were talking a bit about the World Cup Soccer. According to them, Japanese women are going nuts about some guy named Beckham. I have not watched the soccer games or read anything even remotely related, so of course I had no idea what they were talking about. Well, now I know that he has a weird haircut and is married to a Spice Girl. Oh, wow. I was missing so much. [fake sob ... snicker]

I watched a few minutes of the World Cup four years ago. It was mildly interesting. But I never watched it again. For one thing, I was never interested in soccer. For another thing, the religious fervour surrounding the games turns me off. It’s just a bunch of short guys running around kicking a ball. What’s the big deal?

Cleaning Up

Had a big cup of coffee this evening and started cleaning my room. I wanted to listen to my special room-cleaning music, the Matrix soundtrack, but settled for some Celtic music instead because Mama’s home and doesn’t appreciate that sort of music. Not that I do. I only listen to it when I have to clean my room. I need it to keep me going. LOL. While I was at it, cleaned out piping in the bathtub, too. Everything’s clean! So now I’m listening to Mozart’s Requiem. I never tire of it.

“… So Happy, So Very Happy …”

Freedom is such a wonderful thing. I’m so thankful and happy. No, nothing has happened recently that is particularly out of the ordinary. It’s just that as I look around me, at the world, at the people I am with all the time, at my life behind and before me, I’m very thankful. (Psalm 97)

Nothing Special But…

Oh, oh, oh. I got a new clock for my room today. (The one I’d been using for the past few years is Mama’s and she wanted it back so I didn’t have one for a couple weeks.) Listen to this: the entire face of the clock glows in the dark!! Isn’t that just so wonderful? I’d been wanting one like that for years and years.

A one-paragraph entry for a blog is kinda sad, isn’t it? Lemme see what else I can tell you. OK. Here’s something else. I have the “ring” sound on my cell phone set to a song that’s supposed to go, “Hey, hey, it’s all right. Everything’s gonna be all right,” except it’s sung in Engrish so it sounds more like, “Hey, hey, eets all light. Eberyshing’s gohna bee all light.” Ben, Berek, and Gen hate it. LOL.
