Polyphasic Sleep

This sorta reminds me of my old work schedule and sleeping while commuting and between classes … but I don’t see how it would work for a person who goes to the kind of church where members have to be awake all day.

  • It seems to me that monophasic sleep is pretty self-evident in nature — sunrise, sunset. It’s the sensible thing to do. Some of this polyphasic life-hacking stuff just seems dumb — we can hack it, so why not? Dumb.

But some of this is great for if we are stuck in a tough schedule. If we are forced to travel a lot, and be up at odd hours, then I think it’s great to determine the length of your sleep cycles (I think mine is ~75 min), and maybe set up bi- or tri-phasic patterns.

  • I used to go to school and church with a girl who had a sleep pattern like this… She always used to amaze me because it seemed like she never slept because no matter when you called or IMed her, she’d be awake… Yet, she never seemed to display any signs of sleep deprevation.

“He giveth His beloved sleep.” I wonder how many polyphasic sleepers are married . . . I think “team sleeping” (doubles, natch) is wonderful! Of course, I don’t remember 90% of it, but the part that I do remember makes for the sweetest of memories! And I’m sure God blesses the other 90% too. So . . . I’ll go with the “inefficient, old-fashioned” method, thanks.
