Cesarean Art

Traumatized mom, with no doctors in her area allowing VBAC, illustrates her experience. If you look at the pics, look in order and read the captions … and the about pages and the disclaimer. Not for the squeamish. Link via TulipGirl.

  • Nice art and design sense but a little melodramatic in the content sense. It’s sucky that she had to go with a C, but her art makes it seems as if Cs are the devil when sometimes they can be anything but. I read the part where she said she was only referring to her unnecessary C, but the art is far to general to be limited to that.

Until you have had an unnecessary cesarean (and many are) you really have no idea what it is like. WHO (world health organization) recommends a cesarean rate of 10-15%,the U.S has a rate of about 30%–some states even almost 40%. A whole heck of a lot of cesareans are unnecessary. Some women elect them for no medical reason wahtsoever. That’s pure stupidity. They are ill-informed, not informed, or have their blinders on about the risks cesareans carry. Maybe some women who want to elect a cesarean, or women who aren’t doing their research on how to avoid a cesarean, will see the art and do everything in their power to prevent one.
Melodramatic? Birth is very dramatic event, it envokes a lot of emotion. It is a defining moment in a womans’ life. An unnecessary, unwanted cesarean is akin to rape. It is very, very traumatic. Her art is beautiful, and I can relate to it 100%
