Gestational GyrationsRinah Berith

A Daughter Is Born

Hello!!

Here are some pictures of our new baby. There are also bigger versions here.

Her name is either Berith Rinah or Rinah Berith. Haven’t decided yet. We are going to call her Berith, which means “covenant” in Hebrew. Rinah means “to cry out, sing, rejoice,” also in Hebrew.

She was born yesterday, 4 days before her due date, on December 20, 2006, at 3:50 PM after 23 hours of labour (and 12 days of contractions before that) in her parents’ bedroom with two midwives. She was 19 inches (49 cm) long, and weighed 6 lb 7 oz (2900 g). At the last minute, she flipped around and decided to be born breech. Whew.

We can’t tell if her eyes are blue or hazel. It would make sense if they were hazel, because Ben and three of her grandparents have hazel eyes. I’ll write more later … maybe tomorrow … or the day after … or next week. I just thought I should send the pictures as soon as possible. I’m so tired. I’m going to sleep now.

“A Daughter Is Born” has been splattered on 19 times.

  • In the embrace of grace. I pray for a 2007 full of delight and discovery for all three of you.

  • Congratulations!!!!!

We are very happy and “singing God’s covenant” in Japan ;). May God bless you and your family.

  • Oh, wow! Rejoicing with you! Enjoy your babymoon–and really, take it seriously and rest. Biblically you’ve got, what, 80 days with a girl? At least a month of low-key living is good. *grin*

    What a joy!

  • Congratulations! How very exciting!

  • Congratulations and other Hebrew exclaimations!!!

  • Beautiful! Awesome! She came out backwards, eh? So are you going to nickname her Hanir Therib? Offering prayers of thanksgiving, and praying for everyone’s health. Merry Christmas!

  • Hey! Congrats! She’s a lovely baby. Oh, please make it “Rinah Berith.” It flows much better syntactically than “Berith Rinah.” The “ah-ber” works much better in speaking than “ith-ri,” which stops the speaker dead in the middle of the name. Just my two cents.
    I’ll talk to you soon!

    ~Chris

  • Congratulations Emeth. : ) May God bless you three together.

  • Congratulation!
I’m so happy to hear this great news!
    and love her Hebrew name.
May all of your future be full of happines and joy.
    Merry Christmas!
    Izumi

  • Congratulations with the baby. May God bless you.

  • Emeth - congratulations! You are a very tough lady. She’s a beautiful baby. Ann says Hi too!

  • Oh I’m so glad! Claire wrote me to pray for you and your safe delivery - and how many prayers there must have been besides mine, for she is beautiful!

  • Congratulations! She is so cute!

Nursing was very hard for me, too. I expected the pain of delivery to be all that I would have to deal with. I didn’t expect five months of cracked and sore nipples. It was very hard to be happy when I was dreading every feeding. But I knew that if I stopped, I would heal up and then be stuck using formula and wishing that I had perservered a little longer. The pain will go away eventually and then, when just thinking of nursing isn’t something that causes you to tear up, you’ll be glad you stuck to it. Keep the long-term benefits in mind when you’re in the midst of all these short-term troubles.

  • Oh, my! and Congratulations! I knew you years ago on BibleWives, and you gave my daughters addresses to have penpals in Japan (they still write Miwaza), but last I knew you were just Emeth. Now you’ve married and had a baby - This is great news! Happy New Year and may God bless you, your husband, and your sweet baby girl!

  • 23 hours! And breech. *faints* You go, girl.

Midwives rock. Even though I had the New Age, female empowerment variety. :) Still beat out OBs by a mile.

re: the above comment. If you’re having trouble nursing, talk to a consultant or the La Leche League if there’s a branch nearby. A little bruising the first day or two is normal, but cracking and bleeding are almost ALWAYS due to an incorrect latch-on, which can be fixed. Really, you don’t have to just “live with it.”

    Congrats!

~this is Dawn Davidson, Chris’s friend, btw.

  • are you feeling up to bearing with my company for a couple of hours? think about it :P or don’t….. ya so everyone if anyone else reads this Berith is the best! She has her mom’s expresive face. and she sticks out her tongue, she’s very talented at it! :P
maybe probably hopefully most likely and most wishedly (?) i’ll see you tommorow

  • She’s beautiful, Emeth! Just like you.

  • OMG I’m LATE! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

  • Leave your mark.
