I Beef The Nice Tea & Wall-E
WARNING: WALL-E MOVIE SPOILER BELOW.
Tonight before bed, Rinah said to me “I beef, I beef, weed boot, Mama!” When I started like I always do, pointing at each word on the cover, she nodded with satisfaction and sighed softly repeating after me, “I beef … the nice tea.” This is still her favourite book and we read it almost every day.
She has started repeating me and especially likes when she recognizes numbers. She holds up one finger, waves it enthusiastically, and says, “One Lord … one substance … the third day (her favourite) … one baptism.” I try not to laugh when she sees demons and stabs at them with her finger, “Bad demons! Bad demons!”
The only place she has come into contact with death and suffering is in the Nicene Creed. She always gets quiet when we get to the page with the picture of the crucifixion and the people weeping. I tell her they are sad that Jesus died and it has made quite an impression.
I have no idea how she made the connection about death when we were watching Wall-E a couple nights ago and she saw him “die” in Eva’s arms. She started saying, “Wall-E die. I sad.” How did she get that from the crucifixion?!
Rinah has been speaking in sentences more and more. This morning she surprised me with, “Mama! I like my red shoes!” She has started dressing herself and this is the pair of shoes she goes for every day. My little girl is growing up too fast. It’s exciting to see her learn and grow but at the same time I’m so sad I’m losing my baby.
It’s almost 5 AM. I should probably go to bed now while my computer is backing up over 16,000 photos onto our brand new hard drive. All those pictures were taken since June 7 last year. I can’t believe it.

Morning Potty
Almost every morning, both kids wake up at the same time and go potty at the same time. It’s usually pretty fun if I can drag myself out of bed in time before they go in their diapers. Daddy is often involved in the process from the office. Little Zuri is enraptured by his sister and the shiny cell phone.
I grabbed the camera again when he started laughing at his sister’s antics so this one is blurry but I just love it.
Zuri can now sit on the potty at 4 months old without support. Sitting this way helps with elimination and he can sit up on his own supported by his feet. He can’t sit up by himself otherwise. It’s great to have him be able to go without having to hold him there. He does his business with no fuss, no mess … except for the glorious mess of his hair, of course.

Twisty Rucksack + Naked Baby
I’m glad the little guy is old enough now for a back carry (rucksack with a twist in the pic; see tutorial video here). It makes life easier to have him on my back instead of the front. The only drawback is that sometimes he spits up yogurty yuckiness down my back. *shudder*
In old news, my daughter still does not like clothing. She also still loves her brother to death, sometimes his death, quite literally, unless I intervene. A couple days ago, he started crying and I heard her comforting him. “Sotay, bah-ee. Aah-ight. (It’s OK, buddy. You’re all right.)” But I heard him crying even louder. It turned out her idea of comforting him was lying down on top of him. The poor boy spit up his weight in half-digested burp. Blegh.
She doesn’t act jealous towards him but she is starting to try to act like a baby. She has asked to nurse twice in the last week and whenever she sees me holding him asks to be held. It’s been such a long time since she has wanted to be held so much. I’d just gotten used to having her fight to walk all the time. Every day, she drags a wrap up to me and says, “Wrap. Up. Hold you,” which is how she says, “Hold me.”
The most exciting new development in the last couple weeks is that she loves having me read to her. Adrianna obliging read “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” to her over and over againlast weekend. Notice her brow furrowed and her toes curled in concentration.
I can’t do read that particular one more than once at a time. But we do read The Nicene Creed over and over every day and she loves it. It’s such a beautiful book. We talk about the cross, death, resurrection, communion (“Bread! Wine! Yay!”), the Trinity, Satan, angels, demons, and we point and count all the pictures of her favourite thing this week, FISH!, which for some reason Pauline Baynes decided to draw a bunch of.
