I Beef The Nice Tea & Wall-E

WARNING: WALL-E MOVIE SPOILER BELOW.

Tonight before bed, Rinah said to me “I beef, I beef, weed boot, Mama!” When I started like I always do, pointing at each word on the cover, she nodded with satisfaction and sighed softly repeating after me, “I beef … the nice tea.” This is still her favourite book and we read it almost every day.

She has started repeating me and especially likes when she recognizes numbers. She holds up one finger, waves it enthusiastically, and says, “One Lord … one substance … the third day (her favourite) … one baptism.” I try not to laugh when she sees demons and stabs at them with her finger, “Bad demons! Bad demons!”

The only place she has come into contact with death and suffering is in the Nicene Creed. She always gets quiet when we get to the page with the picture of the crucifixion and the people weeping. I tell her they are sad that Jesus died and it has made quite an impression.

I have no idea how she made the connection about death when we were watching Wall-E a couple nights ago and she saw him “die” in Eva’s arms. She started saying, “Wall-E die. I sad.” How did she get that from the crucifixion?!

Rinah has been speaking in sentences more and more. This morning she surprised me with, “Mama! I like my red shoes!” She has started dressing herself and this is the pair of shoes she goes for every day. My little girl is growing up too fast. It’s exciting to see her learn and grow but at the same time I’m so sad I’m losing my baby.

It’s almost 5 AM. I should probably go to bed now while my computer is backing up over 16,000 photos onto our brand new hard drive. All those pictures were taken since June 7 last year. I can’t believe it.
