Prester Malkiel was born into the water at home in his parents’ bedroom after 10 hours of labor (and 6 weeks of pre-labor) on February 19th at 8:11 PM, 10 pounds 3 ounces (4620 g), 20.5 inches long (52 cm), head circumference 37.5 cm, surrounded by his parents, midwife, Shelby, and Shilowe (who took all the pictures below). He started nursing almost immediately and has been nursing once or twice every hour or two since.
He took longer than any of the other kids to decide to come out (at least 41 weeks). He is also the biggest child we have had so far, and like his brothers, he is incredibly strong. All the pictures were taken about an hour after he was born.

His name Prester comes from the Greek presbuteros, which through centuries of mangling apparently became the English word priest. (He was not named for Prester John, in case you were wondering.) The Levites were an especially warlike tribe which is one reason they were chosen to be the priestly tribe and guard the holiness of God. So it is in keeping with his brothers’ martial names, even though it may not look like it at first glance with the common pacifist ideas of priesthood. His middle name Malkiel is Hebrew for “my king is God.”
We hope he will be a powerful warrior priest-king under our High Priest-King, Christ.
